Different ways of serving

Writer: Oludotun OlogunebiOludotun Ologunebi

“And there are distinctive varieties of service and ministration, but it is the same Lord [Who is served].”

1 Corinthians 12:5 AMPC

God has laid out different ways of service to us in His word. Lets explore this....

What are the different ways of serving?

1. Serving which is ministering in the church

“In the human body there are many parts and organs, each with a unique function. And so it is in the body of Christ. For though we are many, we’ve all been mingled into one body in Christ. This means that we are all vitally joined to one another, with each contributing to the others.

If your grace-gift is serving, then thrive in serving others well. If you have the grace-gift of teaching, then be actively teaching and training others.”

Romans 12:4-5, 7 TPT

“For God, the Faithful One, is not unfair. How can he forget the beautiful work you have done for him? He remembers the love you demonstrate as you continually serve his beloved ones for the glory of his name.”

Hebrews 6:10 TPT

2. Serving people in the community

“For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me [with help and ministering care]; I was in prison, and you came to Me [ignoring personal danger].’”

Matthew 25:35-36 AMP

3. Serving a leader as a calling e.g Elisha

“So Elijah departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, while he was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. Elijah went over to him and threw his mantle (coat) on him. He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother [goodbye], then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go on back; for what have I done to [stop] you?” So Elisha left him and went back. Then he took a pair of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their meat with the implements of the oxen [as fuel], and gave the meat to the people, and they ate. Then he stood and followed Elijah, and served him.”

1 Kings 19:19-21 AMP
